PUMP! Thongs for Men
The Complete Guide
Every current PUMP! thong style, what each one is made from, how the sizing runs, and how to tell genuine from fake — from an authorised retailer of that has carried PUMP! since 2010.
The men's thong has stopped being a novelty. It's now the go-to for anyone who wants zero visible lines under slim trousers, less fabric in the gym, and a cut that supports properly rather than just covering. PUMP! makes the version most people end up buying — and this guide covers every style we currently stock, what it's made from, and how it fits.
BANG&STRIKE has sold men's underwear since 2006 and has been an official UK PUMP! stockist since 2010, with 4,830+ verified Trustpilot reviews. Everything below is written from stock we actually hold.
- How many styles: 11 PUMP! thongs currently in stock, across five ranges — Micro Mesh, Classic, Whisper, Cotton & Washed Denim, and Bon Voyage.
- Price: £31–£33.99.
- Sizing: S–XL, true to waist measurement. Form-fitting rather than small. XL is the largest size PUMP! makes.
- Fabric: mostly 78% nylon / 22% spandex microfibre or open-weave mesh, with a cotton-lined pouch. The Washed Denim styles are a cotton blend.
- Care: 30°C gentle wash, no fabric softener, air dry.
- Where to buy: bangandstrike.com — free European delivery on orders over €75, next-day available, 30-day returns.

The mesh thongs are where the range starts for most people. An open-weave micro mesh body with a contoured, cotton-lined pouch and the signature wide PUMP! waistband — light enough that you forget it's there, breathable enough for training in warm weather.
Three to choose from: the Military in tactical green with a black mesh back yoke, the Switch Black with its Y-back detail, and the clean White. All three sit low on the hip and disappear under anything fitted.

If you want one thong that works every day, this is it. Solid microfibre, no print, no sheer panel — just the anatomical pouch, a flat narrow back strap and the branded waistband. The Grey Classic is the quiet workhorse; the Espresso Classic brings the same cut in the warm brown of PUMP!'s Espresso collection.
Microfibre holds its shape better than cotton over a long day, dries fast after the gym, and is the right choice if you're buying a first thong and want to know it'll behave.

Whisper is PUMP!'s sheer-stripe collection — alternating opaque and semi-transparent panels that give the garment a lot of presence while still supporting properly. It is the boldest thong in the range and, unsurprisingly, one of the most bought.
Available in Black and White. Worth knowing: the sheer panels are fine and benefit from a wash bag. If you want the full story on the collection, read our Whisper by PUMP! guide.
"Athletic performance with bold, confident design — underwear engineered to work as hard as it looks."
The PUMP! philosophy, since Montreal 2010
Cotton-blend thongs for anyone who prefers a natural handle against the skin. The Washed Denim range takes the classic thong shape and gives it a garment-washed, faded-denim finish in Indigo and Bubble Blue — soft, broken-in, and considerably less "performance gear" than the mesh.
Cotton breathes beautifully but has less recovery than microfibre, so wash cool and never tumble dry these. More on the range in our Washed Denim collection guide.

PUMP!'s nautical collection, and the newest thongs in stock. The Captain works a blue-and-white maritime palette, while the Sail mixes cotton panels with mesh for a lighter, part-breathable build.
These are seasonal drops — PUMP! doesn't repeat collections, so once a colourway sells through it isn't restocked.

What Makes a PUMP! Thong Different
Anatomically contoured and cotton-lined on most styles — it supports and shapes rather than flattening, and holds that shape after washing.
The wide branded PUMP! waistband sits on the hip and stays there. It's the single biggest reason a thong feels secure rather than precarious.
A flat, narrow centre-back strap that doesn't dig — plus mesh yoke and Y-back detailing on the Switch and Military styles.
78% nylon / 22% spandex microfibre and open-weave mesh for stretch and recovery; cotton blends where softness matters more. All fade-resistant.
Designed in Montreal, made at PUMP!'s own facility in Medellín under fair, safe working conditions.

Sizing & Fit: Do PUMP! Thongs Run Small?
PUMP! is cut closer to the body than most high-street brands — form-fitting by design rather than small. Take your waist measurement with a tape at the point where the waistband will sit (around the hip bone, not your natural waist) and buy that size. Don't use your jeans size; jeans sizing is notoriously optimistic.
| Size | Waist (inches) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 28–30" | 71–76cm |
| Medium | 30.5–32" | 77–81cm |
| Large | 32.5–34" | 82–86cm |
| XL | 34.5–36" | 87–91cm |
Between sizes? Size up. A thong that's slightly generous still sits correctly because the waistband does the holding; one that's slightly tight will cut in at the hip and pull the pouch flat. XL is currently the largest size PUMP! produces.

Are Men's Thongs Actually Comfortable?
This is the question we're asked most, and the honest answer is: a good one is, a cheap one isn't. The discomfort people associate with thongs almost always comes from two design failures — a pouch that's too small or flat, and a back strap that's round or thick enough to dig in. A properly built men's thong has neither.
What surprises most first-time wearers is that a thong is less irritating than a brief in a lot of situations, because there's simply no fabric at the leg opening to ride up, bunch or chafe. Under slim trousers, in the gym, in hot weather, that's the entire point.
The adjustment period is usually about two wears. If it still feels wrong after that, it's nearly always the size rather than the style.
Thong vs jockstrap vs brief
- Thong: narrow centre-back strap. Best under fitted clothing — genuinely invisible.
- Jockstrap: two side straps and an open back. Built for sport and support; more of a statement, less discreet under thin trousers. See the PUMP! jockstrap range.
- Brief: full rear coverage. The most conventional, but the leg opening is where visible lines come from.
When to Wear One (and When Not To)
Under slim or light trousers. The single best use case. No leg opening means no visible line, in any colour of fabric.
At the gym. Less material to bunch during squats, rowing or running, and the contoured pouch keeps things supported through movement. Mesh styles for anything that makes you sweat.
Hot weather and travel. Minimal fabric, fast drying, packs to nothing.
Under a suit. Works well, provided you pick a solid microfibre rather than a sheer style — Whisper will read through pale tailoring.
Where we'd pick something else: long cold days outdoors, contact sport (a jockstrap with a cup pocket is the right tool), and the first day of a long-haul flight if you're not already used to the cut.
How to Care for PUMP! Thongs
Thongs live or die on their elastic. Treat the waistband well and a pair will last years; boil it and you'll get months.
- Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle, whatever the fabric.
- No fabric softener — it coats and degrades elastane fibres, which is what kills the waistband's recovery.
- Air dry. Tumble drying is the fastest way to shrink a cotton style and destroy stretch in a microfibre one.
- Use a wash bag for mesh and Whisper sheer panels.
- Rotate your pairs — elastic needs a day to recover its shape between wears.
How to Buy Genuine PUMP!
Counterfeit PUMP! is common on marketplace platforms — eBay, third-party Amazon sellers, and the cheap ad-driven sites that appear on social feeds. These aren't genuine, aren't made to UK safety standards, and won't match the real product on fabric, fit or durability. Thongs are a favourite target for fakes because the small amount of fabric makes them cheap to copy badly.
Authentic PUMP! has sharp, crisp waistband branding, fabric that feels both soft and structured, a properly finished cotton-lined pouch, and arrives in official PUMP! packaging.
The simplest rule: PUMP! does not authorise retailers to sell on marketplaces, so any marketplace listing — especially a heavily discounted one — is not an approved seller. BANG&STRIKE has been an authorised UK PUMP! stockist since 2010, buying directly from PUMP! and stocking 100% genuine product only.
